Burberry has made its mark with social networkers, chalking up 3 million Facebook fans on its fan page; the highest number of fans for any luxury fashion brand.
In the first year, it reached 1 million fans, 2 million fans in the next month and 3 million in another one more month.
Joanna Shields, vice president for Facebook, EMEA, said the reason for Burberry's success is because of the label producing its own original content, making it a "thriving media enterprise" instead of a mere fashion label.
"Burberry is now the most widely followed fashion brand on Facebook. It's successful not just because it makes great clothes but because it understands the importance of sparking interest in the community and using social media to engage and delight their consumers. Whether it is relating to consumers by promoting indie bands(pictured) on their Facebook page or celebrating the ideas of the most stylish customers on their site, Burberry is building its brand not simply by broadcasting and advertising to them, but by creating new media experiences for them," says Shields.
Burberry put up posts such as its recent Burberry Christmas gifts ideas which linked back to Burberry.com, resulting in that being the most shared album that Burberry has posted. The upcoming festive periods of Thanksgiving and Christmas also drive much growth to the number of fans, with fans sharing the images and commenting.
